To access Windows and macOS, you need to restart your Mac. To run ArcGIS Pro in Windows installed natively with Boot Camp, you need your ArcGIS Pro installation files and a Windows installation DVD or disc image (.iso), if you haven't already set up Boot Camp. The Boot Camp Assistant helps you install Windows within a dedicated hard disk partition. Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) licensed under the GNU General Public License. QGIS is an official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). It runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows and supports numerous vector, raster, and database formats and functionalities. Thank you for downloading Quantum GIS for Mac from our software portal. The download was scanned for viruses by our system. We also recommend you check the files before installation. This download is provided to you free of charge. The download version of Quantum GIS for Mac is 3.14.15.
ArcGIS Pro software
What it is:
ArcGIS Pro is ESRI’s newest, 64-bit, addition to the ArcGIS collection of desktop software. ArcGIS Pro offers a contemporary design with greater 3D visualization and enhanced integration with ArcGIS Online. Those new to GIS desktop software will likely want to start their GIS learning with ArcGIS Pro. Current ArcGIS desktop users (ArcMap users) should think about transitioning to ArcGIS Pro as time and needs dictate. At this time ESRI plans to continue parallel development of both ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap for the next few years. Things to know:
- ArcGIS Pro requires robust computer capacity. For system recommendations and to check your computer’s ability to run ArcGIS Pro see http://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/get-started/arcgis-pro-system-requirements.htm
- Note that Microsoft .NET 4.6.1 or later must be installed prior to installing ArcGIS Pro 2.
- Note that Windows 8 is not supported by ArcGIS Pro 2.
- Both ArcGIS Pro and the ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) can be installed on the same computer.
- Projects created in ArcMap (.mxd) can be imported into ArcGIS Pro but not vice versa.
- The current authorization process for ArcGIS Pro is via an ArcGIS Online for Johns Hopkins account.
Running ArcGIS Pro on a Mac:
Both ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro are programs designed to be run on the Windows Desktop operating system (OS). If you have a mac, you must first use Bootcamp to partition your drive, install Windows Desktop OS and then install ArcGIS Pro on this Windows desktop partition.
The minimum hardware requirements for running ArcGIS Pro on a Mac are slightly higher than for running ArcGIS Pro strictly on a native Windows computer. Refer to Esri's documentation here for more details.
Important message for Mac users:
Prior to ArcGIS Pro 2.3, it was possible to run ArcGIS Pro on a Windows virtual machine (VM) on MacOS using two common deployments: Parallels or VMware Fusion. However, at ArcGIS Pro 2.3, the minimum version requirements for OpenGL and DirectX increased beyond what is supported by the underlying MacOS.
If you are maintaining one of these deployments using an earlier version of ArcGIS Pro, it will continue to work as long as you do not install ArcGIS Pro 2.3 or later. In this case, you should reject notifications that may appear when newer versions of ArcGIS Pro become available.
Gis Software Download
If you are installing ArcGIS Pro for the first time on your mac, click here to download version 2.2. You may follow the instructions below, but skip Step 2 and use version 2.2 instead.
Instructions:
STEP 1 Request Authorization
Log into the ArcGIS Online platform for Johns Hopkins using your JHED ID and password. This will create an ArcGIS Online account for you, and authorize you to use ArcGIS Pro.
Note: Once authorized, you'll see ArcGIS Pro listed as one of the 'Licenses Products' in your ArcGIS Online Profile.
STEP 2 Download
Download ArcGIS Pro 2.4 softwareto the desired location on your computer.
If you are installing on a Mac, download ArcGIS Pro 2.2 software.
STEP 3 Install
Follow the instructions below to guide you through the installation process.

Structure-from-Motion (SfM) and Point Processing
ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro are the two main programs in the Esri ArcGIS Desktop suite. Users can install both of these programs on their machines and run them simultaneously.

Do you want to run ArcGIS in the cloud?
ArcGIS can be run on a “virtual machine” via an internet browser or a Remote Desktop app that you install on your computer. This option requires a UMass NetID. To get started, visit campus IT’s website about Windows Virtual Desktop and how to access files using OneDrive. After logging in to the virtual machine, users can launch ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, or UMass Classroom (to access other Windows software).If you prefer a customizable solution, you can build your own virtual machine on Amazon Web Services. Students can enroll in the AWS Educate program using their UMass email address and get $100 in credit to run a virtual machine. Step 3: Choose your Windows installation method. MoreArcMap
Runs on Windows only. ArcMap is a commercial GIS software available through the UMass site license. It has been the main Esri product for the past several years, but is now in the process of being phased out and replaced by ArcGIS Pro.
The current version available through UMass is ArcMap 10.7.

ArcGIS Pro

Quick Launch Steps
- After installation, launch the application. Click Sign in in the top right corner of the window.
- At the login page, click: Sign in with Enterprise Login.
- Type umass-amherst into the text box.
- Click Sign in to University of Massachusetts-Amherst using UMASS-AMHERST
- Enter your UMass credentials to login.
Esri Desktop Apps
ArcGIS Maps for Office (only works in Windows)
Add-on to the Microsoft Office suite that allows users to generate maps directly from Excel and share the results to PowerPoint. To run, ArcGIS Desktop must be installed on your computer.
ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud (requires Adobe CC to be installed already)
Add-on to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite that allows users to craft aesthetically pleasing maps directly from Photoshop or Illustrator. Requires signing in via the ArcGIS Online option – see instructions under ArcGIS Pro above.
QGIS
Runs on Mac OSX, Windows, Linux. QGIS (previously known as Quantum GIS) is a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) that runs on the contributions of community members.

Keep in mind that the QGIS software itself does not contain all the tools needed to create and analyze geospatial data. Instead, users need to install plugins developed by the user community to fulfill these tasks. Plugins are free to download and install directly from the QGIS Plugin Manager within the QGIS application.

GRASS GIS
Runs on Mac OSX, Windows, Linux. GRASS GIS, commonly referred to as GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System), is a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) software suite used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics and maps production, spatial modeling, and visualization. GRASS GIS is currently used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as by many governmental agencies and environmental consulting companies.

Data visualization software generates charts, graphs, and maps that help people see data in new ways. It is particularly helpful for exploring patterns and trends in data, as well as for producing images for presentations and publications.
Gephi
Open-source analysis and visualization software for graphs and networks. Use for exploratory data analysis, social network analysis, and map creation.
ParaView
Open-source analysis and visualization software, designed for analyzing very large datasets. Great for researchers looking to develop interactive visualizations, animations, and web applications.
Tableau Public
Free version of Tableau. Use for basic visualization and exploratory data analysis. Works with Excel or .CSV spreadsheets.
Structure-from-Motion (SfM) and Point Processing
Structure-from-Motion (SfM), or photogrammetry, generates a digital model of an object from a collection of photographs. SfM is commonly used with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or drones) to model landscapes or large built features. It can also be used to model smaller objects, like museum artifacts.
